Taxes and Utilities Year End Reminders

PROPERTY TAXES

If you have not paid your 2021 property taxes, payment must be received by the City no later than December 31, 2021 to avoid additional charges. Daily interest charges will apply starting January 1, 2022. 

If you have not done so already, please claim Home Owner Grants (HOGs) (if eligible) by December 31, 2021. HOGs must now be claimed directly through the province of BC. Please visit at www2.gov.bc.ca or call them at: 1-888-355-2700. Please use your folio number listed on your tax notice in the required roll number field.

FLAT-RATE UTILITY BILLS (SEWER, WATER AND SOLID WASTE) 

If you have not paid your 2021 flat-rate utility bill, payment must be received by the City no later than December 31, 2021, to avoid additional charges. Unpaid utility bills will be transferred to taxes-in-arrears and daily interest charges will apply starting January 1, 2022. 

METERED WATER AND SEWER BILLS AND ELECTRICAL UTILITY BILLS

Metered water and sewer bills and Electrical bills with a DUE DATE OF no later than Dec 31, 2021, must be paid and payment received no later than December 31, 2021. Unpaid electrical bills will be transferred to taxes-in-arrears and daily interest charges will apply starting January 1, 2022.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

  • Online banking, telephone banking and ATMs.  Contact your financial institution for further information. From your financial institution’s website, search for “New Westminster City’ and select payee with ‘property taxes’ OR ‘utilities’ (for water, sewer, solid waste) OR ‘electrical/hydro’. Use the 8-digit folio number for taxes and the utility account number noted on your utility bill for all utilities. 
    Ensure your payment is received on time, allowing adequate processing times to ensure payment is received by the due date.
  • In person at your financial institution
    Ensure your payment is received by the due date. 
  • Cheques and bank drafts payable to the City of New Westminster
    Cheques can be mailed or placed in the drop box at the rear entrance to City Hall
  • In-person at City Hall
