Are you prepared for an earthquake?

We as British Columbians must get better prepared before the next big earthquake—and also practice how to protect ourselves when it happens. This morning at 10:21 am, we at the City of New Westminster are participating in Shake Out BC, a province-wide Drop, Cover and Hold On drill - join us and prepare yourselves!

Get prepared:

1.      Out- of Province Contact:

Arrange an out-of-province contact person. Teach family members these phone numbers. Keep this and other emergency phone numbers with or near each telephone.

2.     Get a Portable Radio

Get a portable radio and extra batteries for your emergency kit. Hand crank radios are a great alternative to battery operated ones. In an emergency listen to local radio stations for more information ex. CKNW, news1130 etc.

3. Do you have a vehicle kit?

A vehicle emergency kit is one of those things that you don't think much about until it's too late. This can be used if you are broken down on the side of the road or during the necessary survival times in an emergency.

Learn more about emergency kits.
